COCOBAY HOTEL
by Philip Schofield, stay date: 22 Mar 2012
The Cocobay Hotel is excellent, and the standards of the manager and all the staff very high. The hotel, with two good, well provided infinity pools, sits on a promontary jutting into the Caribbean with easy access to three beautiful beaches. The rooms are well built, wooden seaview cottages, each with an individual, and private, seaview. The central restaurant, almost sailship-like and with wonderful views, serves delicious meals. We nearly always chose fish, and it was very good indeed. Getting around Antigua is easy from Cocobay, and worth doing. We hired a car for one day but often chose local buses to get around - cheap, easy (just stand on the side of the road!) and the best way to meet the local people, who were delightful. We met "Viv" (Sir Vivian Richards), and shared a drink with him, in a bar in St John's! We were particularly struck by the quality of the character of the Antiguan people : spontaneous, thoughtful, friendly and always helpful, amusing and friendly. The holiday was great, and, in many ways, made by the charming staff and local people.
