Holidays to Krabi
This small city in the Krabi Province, Thailand, will provide you with a Krabi holiday of a restful and quiet nature. With a populous of around 18,000 inhabitants, this beautifully diminutive city has two natural limestone karsts as its most famous inhabitants, making it a must-see destination for photographers, romantics, and rock climbers alike.
A Southern province on the Andaman Sea, it has a six-month rainy season between May and November. Such sustained downpour gives the area a lush natural growth with bonsai-like palms and tree ferns growing in every nook of the limestone karsts. Your Krabi holidays will be set in idyllic scenes unparalleled along the Andaman seaboard.
5 great reasons to holiday in Krabi
- Culinary dishes unique to Southern Thailand
- A host of watersports, adventure sports, and diving locations
- Magnificent limestone karsts
- Lively bars in Krabi town centre
- Sa Morakot (Emerald Pool)
Two-hundred and sixty million years ago…
… the earth formed Krabi's most distinct natural features: Khao Kanab Nam, the limestone karsts. Built up slowly from coral and shell residue, and thrust into ascension above the surface in a collision thirty millions years ago between the Indian subcontinent and mainland Asia, this is a natural wonder that needs to be seen! Why not take advantage of the regions beauty and climb, cave, or simply photograph for posterity.
Cultural happenings in Krabi
The two most standout temples are a great opportunity to view the cultural roots of local life. Why not take an excursion to Wat Kaew, a newly built local temple, or to Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Temple) one of the most famous temples in Southern Thailand. Situated atop a mountain 3km northeast of Krabi town, scale the 1,237 steps of Tiger Temple and be rewarded with some truly sublime panoramic views of the region.
Alternatively, for a less strenuous sample of its cultural heritage, visit the Contemporary Art Museum and see how local artists negotiate their lives and history through contemporary works of art.
Things to do whilst on holiday
In Krabi town you’ll be greeted with some of Thailand’s most reasonably priced food, drink and massages. Drop by the Dhara Massage & Spa, where two famed local women provide powerful body massages for visitors of this beautiful province. For those consumerist urges why not take a trip to ‘Walking Street’ market or the Vogue department store to grab some memories for your return home.
