Description / Location

Hayman is the most northerly of the famous Whitsunday Island group; the resort is located on the southerly shore of the privately-owned 294-hectare island. The extensive low-rise facilities are scattered among 14 hectares of tropical gardens and front a sweeping stretch of sandy beach. Beyond the beach lies an 800-metre-wide sand flat with a fringe of coral reef that is exposed at low tide. Hayman's flora is diverse, and a variety of birds inhabit the island, including white cockatoos, painted lorikeets, kookaburras, stone curlews, and kingfishers.

Accommodations

Hayman is comprised of 228 guestrooms, suites, penthouses, and one villa, all situated in Pool, Palm, Lagoon, or Beach wings. All offer private terraces or balconies. Hypo-allergenic pillows are available on request. Also on request are DVD players and fax machines.

Restaurants & Bars

La Fontaine - Guests enjoy authentically prepared modern European cuisine matched by La Fontaine wine cellar's range of over 750 vintages from premier vineyards. Offers a formal, yet relaxed atmosphere with soft, rich tones and romantic lighting amid Louis XVI furnishings, Waterford crystal chandeliers, and a central limestone fountain.
Azure - Buffet breakfast includes tropical fruits, juices, and healthy choices. Open selected days for lunch and refreshments, indoors or on the outdoor deck. In the evening Azure presents Australian contemporary cuisine from an open show kitchen, specialising in fresh seafood, in an indoor and outdoor setting.
La Trattoria - Home-style Italian and Mediterranean dining. Rustic indoor and outdoor setting using local timbers. Specialities of the house include antipasto displays and pizza. Live music provided by resident band.
Oriental - Traditional Asian cuisine with contemporary influences. Positioned overlooking gardens and ceremonial tea house which seats up to 10 guests for a private dinner. Dining platforms seating up to four guests each are also scattered among gardens. Decor includes antiques, including 18th century screens, copper lamps, and a happy Buddha.
The Chef’s Table - A weekly event hosted by the Executive Chef or member of the chef's brigade. Takes guests behind the scenes of the main kitchen and includes a six course banquet with matching wines, as well as a visit to the famous La Fontaine wine cellar and Chocolate Room. Bookings required.
The Beach Pavilion - Open-air bar features a selection of seafood, meat dishes, and salads. Serves lunch and sunset cocktails. Poolside service offers light refreshments throughout the day. Overlooking Hayman Beach and Lagoon Pool.
Hayman Pool - Guests can order snacks and beverages throughout the day in this poolside setting.

Activities

The resort provides many on site recreational opportunities such as the centrally located Activities Centre which has six tennis courts, two squash courts, basketball, golf driving range, and fitness room. The centre is open 24 hours and staffed during much of the day. The resort also has two swimming pools. The Hayman Pool comprises an outer (unheated) saltwater pool and an inner heated freshwater pool. To the left of reception is the (unheated) saltwater Lagoon Pool. Also on site are a full-service day spa, and 9-hole putt and green golf course. Half and full-day boat excursions operate out to the reef for snorkelling, scuba diving, and a wide range of fishing experiences.
