4* Bitter End Yacht Club
Description / Location
With an emphasis on sailing and water sports, Bitter End draws active families seeking a tranquil holiday free of television, air-conditioning, and automobiles. The resort is set on 75 acres of steep, green hillside and one mile of ocean shoreline. The main section resembles a Caribbean seaside village, with multicolored buildings, gingerbread trim, and corrugated red-steel roofs. In addition to its complimentary watercraft fleet, the resort offers a mile-long, gently curved oceanfront featuring three beaches, each furnished with cushioned, weathered-teak lounge chairs. One beach, protected from Atlantic Ocean breezes, has calm water ideal for swimming. Another beach offers windsurfing and snorkeling. The resort's swimming pool is bordered by a sundeck with canopy shades.
Accommodations
The resort offers 77 guestrooms in 23 weathered-wood buildings on a rocky hillside overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Each villa building has two guestrooms and is accessible by steep wood-and-stone stairways and paths past rock formations and through dense flowering gardens. Incorporating fieldstone walls, dark woods, and rattan furniture, rooms are designed for private, open-air living in the resort's natural setting. Ocean-view, wraparound wood verandas under thatched awnings feature two-person hammocks, lounge chairs, and two-chair dining sets. No televisions or radios intrude on the tranquil ambience. Rooms are cooled by ocean breezes and ceiling fans (no air conditioning). Decor includes polished wood floors and blue-and-white bedspreads and throw pillows. Spacious bath suites include dressing areas with walk-in closets, vanity sinks, and separate extra-large stall showers. Rooms are available at the Full American Plan or European Plan (no meals) rate.
