5* Riu Palace Cancun
Description / Location
Styled like a Spanish palace, the gleaming white hotel contains a granite-floored lobby with ornately painted coved ceilings; a stained-glass ceiling; crystal chandeliers; pink columns with carved, mahogany-stained bases and caps; tapestries; and plants in ceramic pots. A veranda faces the sea. Although children are welcome, the resort principally attracts romance-minded couples and other adults. One pool containing a jetted section and swim-up bar offers activities and another geometric pool flanked by gardens and two-person lounging beds provides leisurely swimming. A spa tub sheltered by a cupola offers sea views. Lapped by water that remains calm in most weather, the resort's beach extends 200 meters (219 yards). The All-Inclusive Plan includes use of snorkeling gear, boogie boards, kayaks, windsurfers, and small sailboats.

Fronting one wing of the U-shaped hotel is a 23-meter-long (25-yard) irregularly shaped activity pool with a 16-person jetted section, shallow-water tile lounges, a swim-up bar, and an infinity edge. A 12-person spa tub sheltered by a cupola fronts the other wing and in between, a formal fountain garden contains a geometric, infinity-edge "quiet pool" measuring roughly 23 by 23 meters (25 by 25 yards) that contains bronze statues and is flanked by two-person lounging beds and padded lounge chairs. The resort offers snorkeling gear, boogie boards, kayaks, windsurfers, and small sailboats. Introductory scuba-diving lessons are offered in the pool without charge, and beginner, refresher, and certification instruction and excursions (surcharges for all) are also available. Independent operators on the beach or on nearby beaches rent Jet Skis and offer parasailing and banana-boat rides. The resort includes two lighted tennis courts.
