4* Sunset At The Palms
Description / Location
Cited by the U.K.'s Green Globe for "environmentally sustainable tourism," the resort attracts guests from around the world, drawn by the unusual combination of tranquil garden and lively beach sections, exceptional gardens, "natural" open-air wood-structure ambience, and cabins-on-stilts style. (Children are welcome but the hotel has no special facilities for them.) The garden section across Negril's main road from Bloody Bay includes a freeform pool and a spa tub. Guards stop traffic when guests cross the road to the beach section, which features 75m (82 yds) of fine sand extending 3.25 km (2 mi) around semicircular Bloody Bay, in which the Caribbean Sea remains calm in most weather conditions. The resort supplies nonmotorized water-sports equipment. Motorized water sports are available for surcharges.

Balconies with weathered-wood railings feature Balinese daybeds and teak dining sets and provide views of flowering gardens, bamboo groves, fruit trees, and royal palms. Wood-paddle ceiling fans under peaked, bleached-wood ceilings supplement air conditioners. Large wooden-louvered windows permit air circulation and offer views of the exceptionally diverse gardens. Balinese decor includes dark-wood furniture, desks with upholstered chairs, canvas drapes, pale-green fiber bedside mats on dark-wood floors, and tapestry throw pillows/bed throws on cream-colored bedspreads. Slate-tile bathrooms include spacious stall showers (no tubs). Slate tiles also line showers, which feature vertical shower jets as well as showerheads and slate benches with handheld showerheads. Wood-ladder-style towel racks and basin sinks with chrome faucets complete the contemporary look. Televisions offer U.S./European cable channels.
