5.5* One and Only le Saint Geran
Description / Location
At One&Only Le Saint Géran, Mauritian influences reign supreme. The resort’s relaxed and discreet luxury is complemented by service that is attentive, yet unobtrusive. Here, terraced and balconied rooms all face out privately to the Indian Ocean. Under the calm sway of thousands of coconut palms, 60 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds take in tropical gardens, pools and beaches. With sensuous health and beauty treatments, golf, tennis and water sports, One&Only Le Saint Géran always fulfils the promise of its timeless reputation. On the east coast of Mauritius, One&Only Le Saint Geran graces 60 acres on the beautiful Belle Mare peninsula. The resort is fringed by over a mile of white sand beach, bound by a sheltered cove on one side and by an inviting, eternally beautiful bay on the other. Ringed by a protective hemline of coral reef from the deep Indian Ocean, the peninsula on which One&Only Le Saint Géran sits is very close to the actual site of the wreck of the Le Saint Géran ship in 1744. The resort is 1 hour from the airport, 40 minutes from the capital of Port Louis, and 20 minutes via complimentary shuttle from sister resort One&Only Le Touessrok.
Accommodations
Suites are handsome spaces of fine proportion, offering vistas of the deep blue of the Indian Ocean. All suites feature a private terrace facing either the ocean or cove, or a door opening onto a tropical garden. Spacious bathrooms are beautifully appointed, with great cascading showers. All guests have personalised 24-hour butler service. Exquisite taste and grand opulence seamlessly blend with state-of-the-art technology within One&Only Le Saint Géran's 162 suites and one villa. Panoramic windows seem to magically bring the azure sea and lagoon close enough to touch. Beds are covered with Egyptian cotton sheets, piled high with goose down pillows. Every piece of hand selected furniture along with the artful colours of Indian Ocean spices contribute to the suites’ gentle ambience.
Restaurants and Bars
From the cuisine of Michelin-starred Chef Alain Ducasse, to the relaxed ambience of the thatched-roof Pool Bar, guests enjoy a variety of restaurants and bars catering to every taste, mood and occasion.
Spoon des Iles - The jewel in One&Only Le Saint Géran's gastronomic crown is the ‘haute-couture’ gourmet restaurant Spoon des Iles, creation of world-renowned Michelin-Star chef Alain Ducasse. Spoon des Iles represents the first venture out of Paris of Monsieur Ducasse's Spoon Food & Wine restaurant and explores the world of food with a tempting array of multi-ethnic cuisines matched by the finest selected wines, chosen by Monsieur Ducasse's trusted sommelier, Gérard Margeon.
La Terrasse - Surrounding the pool and overlooking the Indian Ocean, La Terrasse offers an eclectic variety of local and international specialities. Breakfast offers a sumptuous buffet featuring eggs cooked to order, fresh baked breads, pastries, cheeses, tropical fruit, freshly ground coffees and vanilla-flavoured Mauritian tea. Activities
A morning scuba dive? Putting with the golf pro on the Gary Player designed golf course, or honing skills at the Peter Burwash International Tennis Club? From aerobics and yoga to beach volleyball and water-skiing, Le Saint Géran offers a wide array of activities. Enthusiastic and highly trained staff attend to the specific interests of each guest. And children are cared for in the enriching and engaging KidsOnly club. Guests also have access to the activities and facilities at One&Only Le Touessrok, the resort’s sister property located 20 minutes away via complimentary shuttle service. Every day, the Sports Team organises and co-ordinates a host of team-sport matches including volleyball, mini-football, bocciball, badminton, tennis, croquet, table tennis and beach soccer. Cross-island bicycle rides and horse riding offer enriching personal exploration of the pure beauty discovered on Mauritius. The calm waters of the cove are ideal for kayaks, pedal boats, banana-boat and tube rides, as well as complimentary water-skiing; whereas the coral-sea lagoon on the ocean side is better suited for snorkelling, windsurfing, Hobiecats, monohull Lasers, and small-game fishing. Water skiers and board riders can enjoy a water ski slalom course and JBWA school featuring ski/wakeboard training. Experienced skiers can test their skills on the slalom course, with the opportunity to receive the JBWA Silver Award, while novices receive one-on-one private instruction and the chance to progress onto the JBWA Bronze Award. Youngsters from age eight to twelve years old can also join in on the fun with introductory courses using special teaching methods to give them a real sense of achievement while making new friends in group sessions.
