5* The Peninsula
Description / Location
The Peninsular Hotel, Bangkok, voted the best hotel in the world, 2002.
The Peninsula Bangkok stands some 100 meters (300 feet) back from Charoennakorn Road overlooking the Bangkok’s central Chao Phraya River. The lobby opens into a large dining/entertainment area with 10-meter (30-foot) ceilings and windows overlooking the riverfront. A live band plays throughout the afternoon and evening as business and holiday travelers mingle and enjoy light refreshments. The Peninsula Bangkok offers a large outdoor pool adjacent to the riverfront and surrounded by dozens of deck chairs and a poolside bar. Tennis courts are located between the hotel and the road. A fitness center and beauty salon are also on site. A helipad is complemented by a private pier and hotel-provided river shuttle. The hotel’s riverfront position allows easy access to Bangkok. Riverboat transport around the city can be more efficient than car or train. While the Peninsula’s river shuttle is very useful for accessing the riverfront directly opposite, arranging a private longboat through the concierge allows access upriver to Bangkok’s historical area within 15 minutes.
Accommodations
The Peninsula Bangkok offers 370 guestrooms on its 39 floors. Each room offers multi-line phones, premium TV channels, and DVD players. Marble bathrooms have separate showers and tubs, and TVs. Rooms are furnished with desks, sofa sitting areas, and minibars. Daily newspapers and welcome fruits are complimentary. All guestrooms feature views of the Chao Phraya River.
