South of Krabi, half way between Phuket and the Malaysian border, the coastal province of Trang is poised to establish itself on the international travel map. It can be reached by air in one hour from Bangkok.
As yet little developed, although international-standard hotels are opening up, Trang has both mainland beaches and a whole string of offshore islands just waiting to be discovered. There's the Mu Ko Petra National Park with beaches and islands lapped by the warm Andaman Sea waters. Some of the dive sites here are world class.
