4* Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach
Description / Location
This casual Hawaii hotel draws vacationing families, celebrating couples, young singles, and some older guests who’ve been returning for years. The large, busy lobby is decorated with Hawaiian art, including a full-sized, century-old, koa-wood outrigger canoe, and royal standards made of feathers. Pacific crafts, toys, beachwear, and sundries are sold in shops on site, and the hotel has several beachfront restaurants.
Guests can enjoy surfing lessons, outrigger canoe rides, catamaran cruises, and beachside massage under a thatched roof . Weekly lobby activities include lei making, and Hawaiian craft and music workshops. A long-time musical variety act, Society of Seven, performs every night but Monday.
All OHANA and Outrigger hotels in Waikiki offer interchangeable hospitality. Guests at any hotel are invited to enjoy dining, entertainment, and facilities at the other hotels—including the Serenity Spa (health and beauty) at The Outrigger Reef on the Beach—while charging to their rooms. Exceptions are: the pool at The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach is reserved for its guests only, and the fitness center at The Outrigger Reef on the Beach is reserved for its guests and guests of The Outrigger Waikiki Shore.
Bonus tip: Reasonably priced leis are sold at the entrance to Duke's Canoe Club (evenings). There is an extensive variety of blossoms to choose from, and a local woman strings them on site.
Accommodations
The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach offers 525 air-conditioned guestrooms on 16 floors. Rooms feature furnished lanais, tropical décor, including leaf-motif carpet, bronze Hawaiian-motif lamps, bamboo-and-wood furnishings, and palm-frond-print bedspreads. Wall art is by artists from Hawaii. High-speed Internet access is complimentary, and 27-inch cable TVs have video-game consoles.
