4* Flamingo Las Vegas
Description / Location
The Flamingo anchors the famous four corners of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, with glittering casinos, free shows, and other Strip attractions within easy reach. The notorious Bugsy Siegel opened the original Flamingo in 1946, paving the way for modern Las Vegas. (“Flamingo” was the nickname of Siegel’s red-haired, long-legged girlfriend Virginia Hill.) The original hotel is gone, but the Flamingo still appeals to nonstop partiers. Families also find a warm welcome here. Comedian George Wallace performs six nights weekly. Singer Toni Braxton also takes the stage for six-week runs followed by two-week breaks. The Second City improv comedy troupe performs nightly. The Caribbean-themed Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant features five bars, live music, and patios overlooking the Strip. Five pools (one open year-round), a children's pool, water slides, and two freeform spa tubs are set in a 15-acre garden.

The Second City improv-comedy troupe continues a long run with nightly performances in its own theater. The Flamingo’s 77,000-square-foot casino includes a poker room, and a race-and-sports book. Five pools, a children’s pool, and three freeform spa tubs are set in a 15-acre garden. The heated, 80-foot-long, scallop-edged Flamingo Pool, open year-round, is surrounded by huge flamingo statues on pedestals and rental cabanas furnished with phones, TVs, and ceiling fans. A 150-foot water slide leads to three terraced pools connected by short water slides. A sprawling lagoon pool, featuring a swim-in grotto behind a triple waterfall, completes the complex. Four tennis courts (surcharge) are lighted for night play. Harrah's Rio Secco Golf Club, 14 miles from the hotel, offers preferential tee times to Flamingo guests. The18-hole championship course is set among the foothills of the Black Mountains. Equipment rentals and the Butch Harmon Golf School are available at the golf club.
