Description / Location

Opened in 2005, the Carlton on Madison Avenue comprises a 12-story Beaux-Arts hotel dating from 1904, and a 4.5-story lobby addition. Renowned architect David Rockwell designed the addition and restored the old building, which features a mosaic-tile floor that is repeated in the addition. Notable New York chef/restaurateur Geoffrey Zakarian offers French-American cuisine in Country, a formal dinner restaurant serving seasonal, fixed-price menus. Zakarian's bistro-style Café at Country serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner; provides room service; and includes two bars. A third, mezzanine-level bar offers cocktails and champagnes by the glass from early evening to late night. Three blocks south of the Carlton on Madison Avenue, Madison Square Park in summer offers children's entertainment on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and Wednesday-evening musical performances for families.

Accommodations

The Carlton on Madison Avenue offers 316 residential-style guestrooms with complimentary wireless Internet access in a 12-story building. Beds dressed with Frette Italian linens and down comforters have silk drapes at their heads and matching upholstered headboards. Custom mahogany furniture includes wardrobes and armoires with decorative inlays.

Country - Notable New York chef/restaurateur Geoffrey Zakarian's formal fine-dining, mezzanine-level restaurant. Open for dinner only. French-American cuisine. Organic produce. Three seatings for fixed-price seasonal menu changed daily.
Café at Country - Lobby-level sibling to Country. French-bistro ambience and (seasonal) menus. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner. (This restaurant provides the hotel's room service.) Hardwood floor, tufted leather couches in lounge areas. Service from midday to late night at two bars, dark-wood paneled Antique Bar and contemporary Café Bar.
Champagne Bar - Mezzanine-level bar/lounge with black-leather seating. Open early evening to late night for cocktails, champagnes by the glass.

Activities

Guests of the Carlton on Madison Avenue are provided complimentary access to a fitness center/exercise studio seven blocks from the hotel. Central Park, 1.5 miles north, offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including ball fields, tennis courts, rowboat rentals, horseback riding, and miles of trails for hiking, biking, running, and in-line skating. Rockefeller Center's skating rink, 0.75 mile away, opens in winter, as does Central Park's Wollman Rink. A golf driving range is located at Chelsea Piers 1.5 miles west of the hotel. Neighborhood athletic clubs offer racquet sports and swimming pools.
