Dating from the 1920s, an updated Grand Hyatt New York includes a vast marble lobby, gold columns, and mirrored ceiling. A waterfall cascades from the lobby's upper level to a marble fountain in the lower. The lower lobby connects directly to Grand Center Terminal's shopping arcade, which leads into the main concourse. For dinner, Commodore Grill & Lounge offers a seasonal menu of American dishes. The breakfast/lunch restaurant has a glass wall for observing 42nd Street's heavy pedestrian traffic.

Central Park, 1.25 miles north of Grand Hyatt New York, offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including ball fields, tennis courts, rowboat rentals, horseback riding, and miles of trails for hiking, biking, running, and in-line skating. Rockefeller Center's skating rink, seven blocks away, opens in winter, as does Central Park's Wollman Rink. A golf driving range is located at Chelsea Piers sports/entertainment complex on the Hudson River 1.75 miles west of the hotel.
