Popular with visitors to Baruch College and the School of Fine Arts, the Marcel Hotel provides a tranquil, informal ambience. Minimalist decor, abstract paintings, and seating of leather and plush-fabric in the lobby and lounge establish the hotel's contemporary style. An independent restaurant/bar, Gramercy 24, serves contemporary American/Mediterranean fare at lunch and dinner, and offers views of passing pedestrians. Live piano music is featured Thursday–Saturday nights. There's a jazz brunch on Sundays. Furnished with leather and plush-fabric seating, the hotel's lounge includes a self-service machine dispensing complimentary espresso around the clock. The 1902 Flatiron Building five blocks from the hotel was nicknamed because it resembled a clothes iron.

Central Park, 1.75 miles north, offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including ball fields, tennis courts, rowboat rentals, horseback riding, and miles of trails for hiking, biking, running, and in-line skating. Rockefeller Center's skating rink, 1.5 miles north, opens in winter, as does Central Park's Wollman Rink. A golf driving range is located at Chelsea Piers 1.5 miles west of the hotel. Neighborhood fitness centers offer exercise classes.
