A chrome-and-black-glass entrance glitters outside, but inside the New York Helmsley is much more subdued. A floral carpet helps keep the lobby quiet and the ambience tranquil. Mindy’s restaurant offers fine dining in an atmosphere featuring hand-painted murals of 19th-century Manhattan and a two-story window wall. Harry’s New York Bar includes a 60-inch LCD projection television for sports events and serves complimentary appetizers during happy hour.

Central Park, 1.25 miles north, offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including ball fields, tennis courts, rowboat rentals, horseback riding, and miles of trails for hiking, biking, running, and in-line skating. Rockefeller Center's skating rink, nine blocks away, opens in winter, as does Central Park's Wollman Rink. A golf driving range is located at Chelsea Piers sports/entertainment complex on the Hudson River 2 miles west of the hotel.
