Original details from the building’s Art Deco origins, such as ornate moldings and Corinthian columns, accent the Ramada Plaza New Yorker's expansive lobby. Large, glittering chandeliers hang from the soaring ceiling, and a TV sits atop the reception desk. Opposite is a busy café, where business travelers attracted to the hotel’s proximity to the convention center mingle with leisure guests who enjoy the Midtown location. The hub of this Ramada hotel is its breezy lobby, which has a café and espresso bar, a newsstand, and an ATM. Adjacent to the lobby, the old-fashioned Tick Tock Diner, with chrome columns and checkered floors, is open 24 hours a day. An escalator leads downstairs to a fitness room, a laundry facility, and a business center with high-speed Internet access. The hotel also has 25,000 square feet of meeting space, including a Sky Lounge with panoramic city views. Eight blocks from the hotel on Pier 86, at 12th Avenue and 46th Street, is the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum. The centerpiece is the historic aircraft carrier USS Intrepid; other highlights are the submarine USS Growler and 25 aircraft, including the supersonic Concorde.

Restaurants & Bars

Tick Tock Diner - Shiny chrome columns, elliptical windows, and black-and-white checkered floors are accented by red-and-green florescent lights at this 24-hour diner with ample booth seating. The American-style menu spans several pages.
La Vigna Ristorante & Bar - This Italian restaurant and bar overlooking Eighth Avenue is open for dinner only. Light-wood furnishings and ocher walls complement linen-clad tables with fresh flowers. Spirits are served at the wooden bar.
Café New Yorker - Located in a corner of the lobby, this café has casual table seating and offers espresso drinks, pastries, and other snack items. Open from early morning until early evening.

Activities

The hotel’s roomy fitness center has cardiovascular and weight-training machines. Less than a mile away on 23rd Street is Chelsea Piers, a 30-acre sports and recreation complex on the Hudson River that offers fitness classes, rock climbing, and golf, among other activities. Central Park, about a mile away, offers walking, biking, and running paths; in-line and ice-skating; boat and bike rentals; birding; and a host of other recreational diversions in a verdant setting of woodlands, waterways, gardens, meadows, and ravines.
