Description / Location

In a building that opened as a hotel in 1929, Southgate Tower combines 1920s ornate styling and contemporary convenience. The lobby has a high molded ceiling, terrazzo floor, overstuffed sofas, crystal chandeliers and, in the center, an octagonal concierge desk ringed with overhead plasma televisions. An independent restaurant/lounge offers a contemporary ambience that includes a mirrored wall and plasma televisions in the lounge and original art and changing-color fluorescent accent lights in the dining room. Niles serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch and features global choices. The lounge offers a bar menu.

Hotel offers 526 residential-style guest suites in a 28-story building. Bedding includes pillowtop mattresses, down comforters, red throw pillows, and down pillows plus three-choice pillow menus. Fully equipped kitchens contain four-burner ranges, microwaves, and full-sized refrigerators

Activities

Central Park, 1.5 miles north of Southgate Tower, offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including ball fields, tennis courts, rowboat rentals, horseback riding, and miles of trails for hiking, biking, running, and in-line skating. Rockefeller Center's skating rink, 1 mile away, opens in winter, as does Central Park's Wollman Rink. A golf driving range is located at Chelsea Piers 1 mile west of the hotel. Neighborhood athletic clubs offer racquet sports, exercise classes, and swimming pools.
