5* Waldorf-Astoria
Description / Location
Host to generations of royalty, US presidents, heads of states, socialites, and celebrities, The Waldorf Astoria has been one of the world's most well-known hotels for more than a century. Some 50 languages are spoken at the concierge desk. The main lobby's expanse of mahogany, marble, and crystal exemplifies the hotel's Art Deco grandeur. Formerly known as the Ladies Lobby, the room at the Park Avenue entrance features a 150,00-piece Wheel of Life mosaic floor created in 1931 by French artist Louis Rigal from 181 shades of marble. Rigal also painted 13 allegorical murals around the room's terrace, where a pianist entertains weekends on Cole Porter's Steinway. A health spa and complimentary fitness center offer rejuvenation.
