Built in 1927, this nine-story boutique hotel is four blocks from Nob Hill and the theater district, a half-mile from Union Square, and one mile from the convention center and North Beach. The brightly lit lobby features hand-carved moldings, a fireplace, and an eclectic collection of international art and artifacts, including tribal figurines, Oriental rugs, and photographs provided by the American Himalayan Foundation. Hotel guests are a mix of business and leisure travelers. Complimentary amenities include evening wine receptions, high-speed wireless Internet access in public areas, and weekday morning Town Car service to the financial district and other destinations. Hotel Carlton's restaurant specializes in Arabic-fusion cuisine and serves breakfast, dinner, and Sunday brunch. The entire property is smoke-free.

Deluxe rooms offer expansive city views and complimentary high-speed Internet access. Superior rooms have limited views and dial-up Internet access (surcharge).

Restaurants & Bars

Saha - This Middle Eastern-style restaurant serves Arabic-fusion cuisine in a sleek space with dark-wood floors, bright red-lacquer seats, and red-leather upholstery. House specialties include Saha’s own red curry served with stuffed acorn squash and tofu, classic Moroccan couscous, and lamb tagine with prunes and almonds. Open for breakfast, dinner, and Sunday brunch.
 
Activities

The hotel does not have its own fitness facilities, but guests receive discounted access to a fitness center three blocks away. Public 18-hole golf courses within five miles of the hotel include the Presidio Golf Club and the Lincoln Park Golf Course. Three miles away, Golden Gate Park has walking and running trails, a children’s playground, gardens, and tennis courts. Ocean beaches, including Seal Rock, are five miles from the hotel.
