Description / Location

Guests, ranging from celebrities and business travelers to vacationing families, enter another world when they check into this Union Square hotel. Built in 1915, a facelift in the 1990s incorporated a 25-foot-ceilinged lobby into a surreal landscape with plaster walls, limestone floors, a hand-carved reception desk, and a gigantic Louis XVI chair. An eclectic collection of modern furnishings and works by American and European artists inside this historic hotel provide a sharp contrast to its classical Italian Renaissance exterior. Guests enjoy preferential access to the hotel’s legendary restaurant and bar, as well as complimentary use of the high-speed Internet-equipped business center and on-site fitness facilities. Accommodation

The 363 guestrooms of the CLIFT Hotel have premium bedding, including down comforters and pillows, and 400-thread-count Egyptian-cotton linens. Rooms feature mirrored walls and soft pastel colors. Restaurants & Bars

Asia de Cuba - Silk curtains, mahogany and leather banquettes, hand-blown Murano glass lamps, and a communal dining table fashioned from hand-etched Venetian mirrors provide an elegant setting. Appetizers on the eclectic menu include lobster pot stickers and coconut-conch ceviche; popular main dishes include roasted lime and garlic duck, and Hunan-style wok-crisped fish stuffed with crab. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Hotel guests enjoy preferential access.
Redwood Room - Legend says that California redwood covering the walls in this one-of-a-kind bar came from a single tree. The 30-foot ceilings, ever-changing digital art displayed on plasma-screen TVs, subdued lighting, and leather and velvet furnishings make the Redwood a popular watering hole for celebrities and local trendsetters. Appetizers and dinner are offered from late afternoon to late evening.

The Clift is a half-mile from Yerba Buena Gardens, with its outdoor playground, ice-skating rink, and bowling alley, and one mile from the Embarcadero, a waterfront walkway. The concierge can arrange bike rentals, and many visitors ride across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. The hotel is three miles from Golden Gate Park, with its vast green spaces, trails, playgrounds, and miniature lakes, and six miles from ocean beaches and the Seal Rocks at the foot of Geary Street. The Presidio Golf Course is four miles from the hotel in Presidio State Park, and Lincoln Park Golf Course, in view of the Golden Gate Bridge, is five miles away.
