Description / Location

Dubbed Washington's rock-star hotel by some locals, Rouge Hotel attracts a young clientele, including business and leisure travelers. Housed in a 1960s white-brick apartment building, the 10-story hotel has an unapologetically mod interior: tufted red-pleather doors open to a lobby with mahogany paneled walls, mirrored credenzas, an oversized white pleather wing chair, and a couch partially covered by a faux chinchilla throw.

Accommodations 
 
This hotel has 137 guestrooms, all of which include complimentary high-speed dial-up Internet access, complimentary video-game consoles, minibars (surcharge), and city views. The decor is mod and playful, with floor-to-ceiling faux-leather headboards, oversized easy chairs and hassocks, velvet curtains, Sony flat-screen TVs with premium channels, and CD players accompanied by an assortment of CDs. Framed photos of cars and martinis hang over 10-foot-long desks. Zebra-print bathrobes hang in the closets in small entrance foyers. In the bathrooms, the hotel stocks Aveda toiletries on black-marble vanities and has installed shower massages in the white-tiled tubs. Handheld showers, sewing kits, and welcome amenities are available upon request, the latter for a fee.

Activities 
 
In addition to the hotel's fitness center, guests receive discount passes to the YMCA 3 blocks away, which has a lap pool, spa tub, racquetball and squash courts, indoor running track, and an array of spa services and exercise classes. Hains Point is an 18-hole public golf course 3 miles away on the banks of the Potomac River. The site has a two-tier driving range and a miniature golf course listed on the National Register for Historic Places.
