Day 1 - Arrival in Colombo and transfer to Habarana
Met on arrival at Colombo International Airport.
Transfer to Habarana.
Check In at Hotel.
Rest of the day at leisure.
Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel.
Day 2 - Habarana / Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa
Breakfast at Hotel.
Travel to Sigiriya. Climb the spectacular Lion Rock fortress at Sigiriya that was built in the late 5th century BC. This stunning World Heritage Site was built on the orders of King Kashyapa I and stands over 200 metres high. Surrounded by tropical jungle, the magnificent fortress was once the headquarters of military operations in the area due to its strategic and defence capabilities. It later functioned as a Buddhist monastery and place of worship. Explore Sigiriya’s famous “Heavenly Maidens” fresco wall paintings and the beautiful water gardens surrounding the rock.
Carry on to Polonnaruwa where you will discover the 11th century world heritage site that was once a city of grandeur and importance throughout the 11th and 12th centuries AD. You can still see captivating ancient ruins of the Royal Palace, the Lotus Pond, the striking statue of King Parakramabahu and his wonderful Parakrama Samudraya Lake. Visit the temple of Gal Viharaya, famous for its four great statues of the Buddha in various postures that have been immaculately preserved. Discover other legendary monuments including the splendid Lankathilake, the famous Shiva Temple, the majestic Kiri Vehera shrine, the Watadage and the Galpotha.
Return to Hotel for overnight stay.
Day 3 - Habarana / Dambulla / Kandy
Breakfast at Hotel.
Travel to the centre of Sri Lanka and visit Kandy, the magnificent hilltop city. En route to Kandy stop by at the world famous Dambulla Rock Temple that is both a Buddhist temple and a World Heritage Site. Dambulla monastery has 5 stunning cave temples that were built by Sri Lankan Kings – the first was King Walagambahu in the 1st century AD. You can explore each cave’s unique interior frescoes and beautiful statues of Buddha. From Dambulla visit the splendid spice gardens of Matale where you can take a tour of the herbs and medicinal plants that are used in an array of homeopathy treatments and Sri Lankan cooking.
Check in at Hotel.
In the evening enjoy a cultural show at the Temple of the Tooth Relic with traditional music and dance.
Return to Hotel for overnight stay.
Day 4 - Kandy / Pinnawala / Kandy
Breakfast at Hotel.
Travel to the Pinnawala elephant orphanage and spend time with the sanctuary’s 80+ elephants. Many of the elephants were born at the orphanage but some are orphans from the wild. Visit the centre at feeding times and see the carers bottle-feeding the orphanage’s baby elephants. You can accompany the elephants on their daily walk to the river and see them splashing in the water and taking a bath.
Return to Kandy.
Spend the afternoon touring the lovely Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya. The gardens showcase the finest herbs, exotic plants, orchids, palm trees and flowers in the region and have been in operation since the time of Sinhala Kings. The botanical garden boasts almost 150 acres of well-cultivated grounds that were developed under British rule.
Spend time visiting the stunning city of Kandy. The last capital city of Sri Lanka before the British invaded in the early 19th century, Kandy is an impressive place with attractions to discover such as the renowned Temple of the Tooth, the National Museum of Kandy and the serene Kandy Lake built in the late 18th century. A certified World Heritage Site, Kandy is a place of natural beauty, stunning architecture and historical importance. There are an array of craft markets and bazaars to explore.
Return to Hotel for Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 - Kandy / Nuwara Eliya
Breakfast at Hotel.
Visit a local tea plantation and its nearby tea factory, where you can sample some of the world’s best cups of tea. Receive a tour of the factory and learn about the process of making tea. Continue your journey to the popular hilltop resort of Nuwara Eliya where you will be surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. Nuwara Eliya is home to Sri Lanka’s highest peak, Mount Pidurutalagala, and an impressive 18 hole golf course. Nicknamed “Little England” due to its abundance of traditionally English plants and trees, trout streams and churches, Nuwara Eliya is a delightful destination to explore.
Check in at Hotel.
Embark on an evening tour of the areas sights before returning to the Hotel for overnight stay.
Day 6 - Nuwara Eliya / Beach Resort
Breakfast at Hotel.
Leave for the chosen Beach Resort via Kithulgale.
Leave the tour at Beach Resort.
