Wellington

Wellington Overview

The spacious, high-ceilinged lobby is a welcoming place, with comfortable seating, a marble fireplace, a large chandelier, and Art Deco murals. People are always on the move here, heading out for sightseeing and tours, or sometimes just checking their e-mail on the business center computer (surcharge). Tourists predominate, but business travelers can take advantage of the economical rates if they do not require extensive business services or meeting rooms. Molyvos, the on-site restaurant, is highly regarded for its meze (Mediterranean hors d’oeuvres), seafood, and lamb. The Park Café, open from early morning until late night, is a top spot for egg dishes, sandwiches, and plate specials. Carnegie Hall is not one hall but three. Stern Auditorium is the 2,804-seat original. Weill seats 268 for recitals, and Zankel, the newest, opened in 2003, seats 599 for chamber performances and recitals.

Wellington Activities

Central Park, three blocks to the north, offers walking, biking, and running paths; in-line and ice-skating; birding; boating; and a host of other recreational diversions. With the famous Christmas tree sparkling above it, the Rink at Rockefeller Plaza—six blocks from the hotel—is a special treat during the winter holiday season.
